Poverello House has a long history of helping people in need. A legacy that continues in Papa Mike’s Café. A new concept where all in need can have a meal they choose…served with kindness and respect, for a sense of worth and empowerment that can lead to real change.
Papa Mike’s Café is the latest expression of the mission begun over 50 years ago with peanut butter sandwiches served by Poverello House founder, Papa Mike McGarvin. He saw then – as we see today – that life on the streets is a life of limited options. A life that forces the homeless to accept what’s available. A life that can lead them to feel helpless and powerless.
That’s why Papa Mike’s Café wanted to do something transformational, and feed those in need from a menu of delicious options. By simply having a choice, our guests can experience something they may not have felt in quite a while: a sense of worth and empowerment. Which might be just what they need to take the first step on the journey toward change.
